Former Beneficiaries - Where Are They Now?

Many of the 1500 former beneficiaries that Tofta Educational Trust have been able to further their education and obtain meaningful employment. The following are a few examples of those we are still in contact with.

Ad Astra Pur Adua


Richard comes from a poor family in a very rural area. His family could not cope with the school fees for his 'A' levels, so a friend approached T.E.T. to assist him. Richard passed his 'A' levels well and in 2007 he was able to join a tertiary institute to further his education in Agriculture where he obtained a Diploma in Animal Production & Management and a Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture.

Richard graduated in 2008 and is currently the farm manager at L.M.V.C.; and assisting two of his siblings to obtain secondary education.


Joshua comes form a large family of more than 10 siblings all of whom largely depended on his father. He lost his dad before he could complete his

O-levels.

His was introduced by his Rotarian brother-in-law to John Kirkwood. T.E.T helped Joshua to complete his Secondary education, and consequently his degree at Makerere University.

He is currently working on a USAID project to increase the use of Reproductive Health(RH), Family Planning(FP), and Child Survival(CS)in and around the districts of Kamuli, Kaliro, Mayuge, Bugiri in Eastern Uganda.

Due to his outstanding character, Joshua was selected to attend the World Cup in South Africa by YALDA (Youth Alliance for Development and Leadership in Africa), as a reward for his dedication over the last few of years.


Constance used to walk 12 Kms each way to school on one meal a day that was provided by her grandmother as her mother was dying of AIDS. Initially her mother's health improved due to the reduction in worry over her children's future education when Constance got a Tofta scholarship; and when she died she knew that her children would have a good education.Constance worked hard & achieved her dream of a place at Makerere University where she studied education. She is now a graduate teacher at Lords Meade Vocational College after her graduation in 2007.


Primrose comes from a poor rural family. She is the only child who attended secondary school, and with the help of T.E.T. she managed not only to complete her secondary education, but also to go to Makerere University. She now works in a financial institution, and assists her sisters and elderly mother.


Sam comes from a poor family near Soroti in North Eastern Uganda. His parents are both alive, but his father is weak from HIV / AIDS. When Sam's siblings were no longer able to support him in a secondary school in Jinja, he approached T.E.T. to enable him to complete both his secondary education to do his teacher training course. He is now teaching at Lords Meade Vocational College, where he is as active outside the classroom as he is inside it! He joined L.M.V.C. in 2005, and he now supports his siblings' children in furthering their education.

In secondary school Sam was active in the Interact Club, and currently an active member of the Rotaract Club of Jinja
